MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Writing, English, Communications, Journalism or a related field, and two years of experience as a professional writer/editor or in a related role.
OR
Master’s degree in Writing, English, Communications, Journalism or a related field and 1 year of experience as a professional writer/editor or in a related role.
OR
Associate’s degree in Writing, English, Communications, Journalism or a related field and four years of experience as a professional writer/editor or in a related role.

Duties DescriptionSTANDARD DUTIES:
The New York State Department of Labor’s (DOL) communications department is seeking a skilled and experienced Editor/Writer to edit, develop and maintain current and future high-quality user manuals and operation books for our diverse range of products and services.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of plain language writing principles, exceptional communication skills, experience using Adobe RoboHelp and a proven ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Under the guidance of the Communications Department leadership, develop and maintain comprehensive user manuals and operation books for a variety of DOL programs and services
• Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather, analyze, and interpret complex information
• Collaborate with Senior staff to ensure the materials are being presented in a way consistent with Department values, tone, and voice
• Collaborate with the General Counsel’s office to ensure the written and technical information complies with all applicable rules and regulations
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience.
• Adhere to plain language writing principles and ensure consistency with DOL style guidelines
• Utilize Adobe RoboHelp and other authoring tools to create and maintain user manuals
• Conduct thorough reviews of user manuals to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with DOL standards
• Provide technical writing support to other DOL departments and projects, as needed
