One year of experience in environmental education programs; OR one year of college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.
Duties DescriptionUnder the direction of the Environmental Educator 1, the selected candidate will:
• Work with park and regional program staff planning, conducting, and evaluating park programs and events materials, audiovisual programs and exhibits for schools, community groups, and the public.
• Assist with organizing, conducting and teaching a variety of activities related to environmental education and the outdoors including recreational activities such as hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing.
• Work with the environmental education team on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our multiple large events
• Assist with recruitment, training, and supervision for SCA interns, seasonal staff, and volunteers.
• Assist with natural resource projects that take place at the park.
• Assist with live animal maintenance and daily care.
• Assists with creating digital and print media and social media content to advance public outreach.
• Advance agency diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
• Assist with a variety of administrative activities to support programs throughout the year.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
Additional CommentsOPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be willing to work outdoors year-round and in all weather conditions.
• Must have excellent communication skills and be willing and able to speak publicly to diverse audiences.
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds continuously and 100 pounds occasionally in the performance of duties.
• Must have experience in or demonstrate a willingness to learn the following programs: Facebook, Instagram, Mailchimp, Canva, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams).
• The incumbent will be required to obtain certifications of Red Cross certification in First Aid and CPR/AED during their probation if they do not already possess these certifications at the time of appointment and must maintain as a term and condition of employment.
• The incumbent must be available to work daytime, evening, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
• Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently, as well as with others.
