Public Minimum Qualifications (HELPS Program): A.
You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
AND B.
you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics.
Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.
Candidates, please provide your Commission on Dietetic Registration certification number on your cover letter or resume, or a copy of your certification card, with your application.
Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.
4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the Open Competitive minimum qualifications listed below.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience working in a community public health program and have excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
They will have the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
Duties DescriptionThe Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program which provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs and adults in other programs.
The Public Health Nutritionist (PHN) 1 will conduct administrative program reviews of sponsors and participating organizations to monitor and evaluate fiscal and administrative integrity and compliance with State and federal regulations.
Responsibilities of the PHN 1 include providing nutrition expertise and technical assistance to ensure the quality and safety of food service operations at participating organizations; reviewing and recommending approval of applications; reviewing budgets; providing training related to menu planning and food service operations; and maintaining required records consistent with CACFP regulations.

Non-competitive appointment may be made under the NY HELPS program.
NY HELPS waives Department of Civil Service examination requirements for certain positions for a period of one year.
