Immediate opening for an Assistant Town Collector to assist the Town Collector with financial clerical duties supporting work for the Town Collector’s office, billing of revenue, collection of all billed revenue due and owed and all other related work as required.
Full-time position (36 hours per week, four days per week), benefited.
Starting salary $20.
13 per hour, with annual step and COLA raises.
Qualifications include a High School Diploma (Associate Degree or higher preferable), 2 years of office experience with financial related experience and experience working with the public desired.

_*FULL JOB DESCRIPTION*_ *Purpose: *Performs responsible administrative, financial, clerical duties supporting work for the Town Collector’s office, assisting in the collection of all billed revenue due an owed to the Town.
Performs all other related work as required.

)_ Processes the daily incoming mail, answers questions regarding local taxes, and refers citizens to the appropriate office.
Posts all payments received and processes reports for proof of balances for all funds received.
Research delinquent tax accounts for mortgage holders regarding the current tax status of property.
Creates and research for municipal lien certificates, including contacting the Fire District to gather information.
Posts abatements and exemptions, performs customer service functions such as looking up taxes owed.
Runs duplicate tax bills and accepts payments.
Research information to verify status of properties to allow approval of building permits.
Prepares turnovers for the Treasurer.
Processes all outgoing mail for Town Hall and delivers to the Post Office.
Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
*Supervision**:* _Supervision Scope:_ Work is performed in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies to complete assigned tasks; some tasks are performed independently.
_Supervision Received: _Work is performed under the supervision of the Town Collector.
_Supervision Given:_ None.
*Recommended Minimum Qualifications**:* High School diploma or equivalent; two years of office experience with some financial related experience and experience working with the public desired; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
_Special Requirements: _Must be bonded.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
_Knowledge:_ Thorough knowledge of office practices and procedures, and administrative record keeping.
Working knowledge of computers with the ability to work with a variety of software packages such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
Knowledge of various accounting functions.
_Abilities:_ Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to organize files and records.
Ability to interact tactfully and appropriately with the general public.
Ability to work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
_Skill:_ This position requires excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
High attention to detail skills.
Aptitude for working with numbers and details.
Proficient computer skills utilizing a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office.
